NY detective Shevaughn Robinson is having a hard time with life. Feeling a little down, she treats herself to a night out, but it doesn't improve her mood until a handsome stranger asks her to dance. The evening ends with a kiss that haunts her.
She begins investigating an especially gruesome murder case, which quickly evolves into serial murders. Right before they find the first victim, she meets Tony O'Brien, a reporter interested in doing a piece on her and her career. Sparks fly.
Shevaughn follows murder after murder trying to solve the case; not realizing the murderer is a man who not only is obsessed with death, but becoming more and more obsessed with her.
Brewing is a sensual love story between Shevaughn and Tony. The killer watches the relationship blossom from afar and plots its demise.

ACE OF HEARTS by Jean Holloway, is the story of Detective Shevaughn Robinson who is attempting to solve her first major murder case. There is a serial killer on the loose who has an obsession with women - not only live ones, but he also assaults their dead bodies. And, he doesn't stop there. He has something he does to them that is even more horrifying. He's also very careful. Only the first bodies produced his DNA. After that, he got wise and used condoms, rubber gloves and whatever else he needed to prevent the police from tracing him.
Shevaughn, a black detective, has a new love interest who no one in the police department thinks much of. He's the reporter who exposed a police scandal the year before. He's also white and the action takes place in the 1980s before interracial couples became common. Shevaughn can feel the stares as they go to clubs and restaurants.
What Shevaughn isn't aware of is the killer has become obsessed with her and is doing his best to lure her into his trap. Will she be able to identify him? Can her new love, Tony, save her?
Holloway has written a very intense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your chair. It starts off with speed and maintains it throughout the book. It is well worth reading.

I stopped watching scary movies for the same reason I could not put this book down. REALISM! With each paged turn, details were vivid and awestuck. I was afraid to put it down or pick it up! That's the way I love my horror.
I can't wait for her next work... be cautious. Read it in the daytime!!!

This is a surprisingly enticing debut novel by Mrs. Jean Holloway. This book takes you on a HIGHLY charged emotional rollercoaster ride! It is a FRIGHTENINGLY suspense-filled, romantic murder mystery with LOADS of heart stopping twist and turns that will keep you turning the pages until the very end. I must thank one of my girlfriends for recommending this book, because had she not I would have missed this thrilling ride. The characters were quite engaging. The storyline was well developed and the attention to detail made me feel like I was watching a very entertaining, yet spine-chilling movie. I found myself completely and thoroughly caught up in the drama of Detective Shevaughn Robinson's life, professional and personal. The sensual, yet endearing romance between Shevaughn and Tony aided in lightening the mood of an otherwise intense and sometimes disturbing erotic thriller. Tony was a sweet, good looking, compassionate, thoughtful and protective man, who wanted to help his woman in EVERY aspect of her life, professionally and personally. I also enjoyed the budding new partnership/friendship between Shevaughn and Detective Jared Benjamin, he was like the overprotective big brother she never had. Mrs. Holloway DEFINITELY keeps you in suspense throughout this novel, when you think you know what's going to happen, she'll shock you with an unexpected twist and/or turn. I hope she's able to keep me just as captivated with the upcoming sequel!

Bravo for Ms. Holloway's debut novel! I was drawn in from the very beginning and didn't want it to end. Her imagination really shines in this tale of murder, mystery and romance. I could picture each scene in my mind due to the diligence used in describing each one. I also felt like I really knew the heroine of the story. I found myself experiencing each emotion she must have felt as she tried to gain respect as a detective while also dealing with some personal issues. Ms. Holloway definitely set the bar high for herself and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment.
