Lead Homicide Detective Shevaughn Robinson has gone from the cop everyone, including herself, doubted to the "golden child" of the Portsborough Police Department with a record of sensational arrests and closed cases.
But when a lonely widow is found dead from an apparent suicide, her family insists it was murder and pressures the Portsborough Police Department to take on the investigation. Detective Robinson is assigned to the case at a time when she is struggling to strike a balance between her personal and professional life following the death of the love of her life. This case awakens a complicated relationship with someone who harbors resentment towards Shevaughn for the death of the serial killer dubbed Ace of Hearts.
Was it suicide or the work of a cold-blooded predator? Will life throw Shevaughn another unexpected blow? And will Shevaughn's attempts to move forward inadvertently lead death to her front door yet again?
Black Jack is the sequel to Jean Holloway's acclaimed debut novel, Ace of Hearts. Buckle up and follow Shevaughn as she moves closer to solving a new, yet old case, unknowingly rekindling old grudges and awakening a sinister spirit. Get ready, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Homicide Detective Shevaughn Robinson has the knack for solving the cases she's been assigned. After starting her career by second-guessing herself, she now has the skills and confidence to do her job. She's able to balance her professional and personal life. However, when she's assigned to investigate what appears to be the suicide of an older woman, she is led to someone from her past. As she works to solve the case, her past keeps reappearing with a score to settle. Will Detective Robinson be able to deter them?
BLACK JACK by Jean Holloway is the sequel to her debut novel, Ace of Hearts. Holloway spins a tale of mystery, revenge and intrigue from beginning to end. Throughout she offers complex characters she creatively brings to life. An intense page-turner that kept me turning the page to find out what was going to happen next. Ms. Holloway's work is definitely for those who enjoy reading mystery/thriller novels.

Detective Shevaughn Robinson is back with another perplexing mystery. She's riding high on her record of closing high profile cases when another homicide lands in her lap. Shevaughn is trying to focus on this case while trying to get over the death of the love of her life, Tony. This new case also brings Shevaughn back in touch with Terri Becker, the wife of the Ace of Hearts killer Eric Becker. Unbeknownst to Shevaughn, Terri still has a lot of resentment towards her for Eric's death and wants revenge. Shevaughn is on the verge of catching another possible serial killer. But she better pay attention to what's going on at home as well. Someone close to her is trying to destroy her family. Will she be able to save her family before it's too late?
Jean Holloway has once again brought a wonderful mystery with Black Jack. Holloway did a good job of bringing back Detective Robinson with a whole new case. The way that she brought back Terri into the mix was clever as well. Just when you think this latest string of murders is an open and shut case, Holloway hits you with another twist that keeps this story exciting. There is also a bizarre surprise in this book that will definitely shock you. Black Jack is another great suspense novel by Jean Holloway.

BLACK JACK by Jean Holloway is the story of Detective Shevaughn Robinson, known as the "Golden Child" of the Portsborough Police Department. She prides herself on having every one of her cases closed.
That is until Helene Elliott, an elderly woman, is found dead of an apparent suicide. When the family pressures the police department to look further into it, the investigation obviously points to a murder. A murder that leads to a possible serial killer on the loose. When Detective Robinson is on the trail to the next victim, she will never believe who may be next on his list...a blast from the past. Will she be able to close this case or will it just lead to more unanswered questions? Unbeknownst to Detective Robinson this case just may hit a little closer to home than expected. She may have just lead danger right to her
front door. No one will be safe.
BLACK JACK by Jean Holloway is a book of Romantic Suspense. An excellent sophomore read. I definitely recommend for readers to read ACE OF HEARTS before reading BLACK JACK. Both are enjoyable.
BLACK JACK will leave the lingering question, was there something supernatural going on or was someone in the story just psychotic? You decide!

I’ve been looking forward to reading Black Jack, ever since I’ve had the privilege of reading and reviewing book 1, Ace of Hearts. I was really curious to see how this story would play out, I wondered who the new characters would be and how the new storyline would tie into the first book. Boy oh boy, are you in for a treat! The story picks up just a few short years after Ace of Hearts ended. Shevaughn Robinson (Von to her friends) feels pretty good about her role as lead homicide detective. With work going so well, she can almost forget the pain and sadness of Ace of Hearts.
When Von is called to the scene of a homicide and she begins investigating an elderly woman’s death, she can’t stop some of the memories from flooding back as similarities remind her of Eric Becker, the notorious Ace of Hearts serial killer and violent rapist.
Black Jack is not for the squeamish; the characters and the fast-paced story line is gritty, authentic and at times, quite graphic. It’s an absolute must, that you read Ace of Hearts (book 1) and then Black Jack (book 2)! I found myself having compassion for some of the sinister characters in the story, almost against my will.
Jean Holloway is, in my opinion, a master story-teller; she has an amazing gift and she’s not afraid to use it. With exciting twist and turns, a cold-blooded killer and fast-paced action, this seductive thriller will pull you in and keep you guessing.
I very highly recommend this book to all thriller and erotic thriller fans!
